The people who keep the process moving
At Machine Africa, the team works across valuation, auction preparation, inspections, catalogue work and on-site coordination. Each person brings a different strength, and that mix matters when you are dealing with used plant, production equipment or a full clearance sale in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town or Gqeberha.
We keep the work practical. That means honest opinions of value, careful lotting, clear viewing day planning and straight answers about what a machine is likely to attract in the market. It also means handling the small details, from photos and access planning to collection timing and site conditions, so sellers and buyers know what to expect.
Siyabonga Mthembu leads the business direction
Siyabonga Mthembu, our Managing Director, oversees the way Machine Africa works with sellers and buyers and keeps the business focused on fair process and steady communication. He understands that a machinery sale is often tied to a shutdown, upgrade or site change, so timing and clarity matter from the first enquiry to the final handover.
His role is to make sure each instruction is handled with care and that the team works to the same standard, whether we are dealing with a single asset or a full plant. He is involved in the bigger decisions, but he also keeps a close eye on the practical side of the work, which helps the process stay grounded and consistent.
Valuation and auction judgement from experience
Pieter van der Merwe, our Senior Valuer, is responsible for assessing machinery and forming opinions of value based on condition, age, service history, make, model, working status and current market demand. A valuation is not a promise of sale price, it is a professional view of likely market response based on the information available at the time.
He works closely with site teams and clients when machinery is still installed, partly stripped or affected by long idle periods, coastal humidity or power interruptions. That kind of context matters. A press, compressor or packaging line can look very different after months of storage or heavy use, so Pieter’s job is to read the details properly and say what they mean in the real market.

- Plant appraisals for single items or grouped assets
Auction coordination that keeps sellers informed
Naledi Khumalo, our Auction Manager, handles the planning around each sale and keeps the process organised from lot structure to viewing day flow. She works with sellers on timing, room for access, and how best to present the assets so buyers can assess them properly before bidding.
Her role also includes helping the team manage buyer questions and seller instructions without losing track of the small things that affect turnout and confidence. When an auction is put together well, people can compare items properly and understand where each lot fits in the sale. That is where Naledi’s steady approach really shows.
Client service and seller communication
Ayesha Ismail, our Client Relations Lead, is often the first clear point of contact once an enquiry comes in through the website. She helps clients understand what information is needed, what documents or site details may matter, and how the next step works, without making the process feel complicated.
She also helps keep communication tidy when there are multiple parties involved, such as site managers, directors, buyers or maintenance teams. In industrial work, confusion costs time, so her role is to keep everyone aligned and keep the message simple. That kind of follow through makes a real difference when deadlines are tight and machinery still needs to be seen and recorded properly.
Operations, logistics and media on the ground
Thabo Molefe, our Operations Coordinator, and Johan Botha, our Site Logistics Supervisor, handle the physical side of the work. They help plan access, loading conditions, movement around the site and collection coordination, which is especially important where forklifts, cranes or restricted yard space are involved.
Lerato Nkosi, our Catalogue and Media Coordinator, makes sure the assets are recorded clearly for buyers. Good listing material matters because industrial buyers want to see the condition, configuration and practical details before they travel. Together, this part of the team helps turn a site visit into an organised sale process, rather than a rushed scramble.

Why buyers and sellers work with this team
Our team is built for used industrial machinery, not general guesswork. That means we understand the pace of workshops, warehouses and production sites, and we know the value of doing things properly on the ground. Whether the work is in Kempton Park or further afield in Durban, Cape Town or Gqeberha, we keep the same practical standard.
Clients come to us for direct guidance, clear valuations and auction support that respects both the asset and the site. If you need to assess machinery, prepare it for sale, or plan a closure or sale of plant and equipment, our team can help keep the process orderly and realistic, which is what people usually need most.
