What Working With Us Involves
Our work is hands-on and site based. One day may involve a plant inspection in Germiston, the next a viewing day in Pretoria or a photo listing prep visit in Johannesburg. Accuracy matters, because valuations are opinions of value based on condition, age, demand and market context, not a guarantee of sale price.
We deal with buyers and sellers who need clear communication, steady follow through and proper records. That means careful lotting, honest descriptions, practical scheduling and respect for access rules, safety procedures and operating machinery on site.
Roles We Commonly Hire For
We do not keep a standard vacancy list here, but we often need people with experience or a strong interest in the following areas:
- Auction coordination and bidder support
- Plant and machinery valuation assistance
- Site logistics and collection planning
- Cataloguing, condition notes and photo listing prep
- Client communication and seller updates
- Asset inspections and viewing day support
If you have worked around factories, workshops, warehouses or industrial yards, that background can be useful. Mechanical knowledge, administration skills and strong local route knowledge are all helpful, especially when working across Gauteng, Durban, Cape Town and Gqeberha.
What We Look For In Applicants
We value people who can keep calm, ask sensible questions and work with detail. The job often involves early starts, standing for long periods and handling more than one task at a time. You should be comfortable with basic spreadsheets, clear written notes and practical site etiquette.
- Good time management and reliable attendance
- Clear communication with clients and colleagues
- Careful attention to asset descriptions and condition
- Comfort around industrial equipment and busy sites
- Ability to work with load-shedding delays and changing schedules
A strong candidate is not only technically capable, but also steady when plans shift. In this line of work, a missed detail can affect the whole lotting process, so accuracy matters every day.
Where The Work Takes You
Our base is in Kempton Park, but the role can extend across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Midrand, Germiston and further afield when projects require it. Some assignments are quick inspections, while others involve full auction planning, reserve guidance, closure support and collection coordination.
Because many industrial sites run on tight timetables, candidates should be comfortable with travel, site access procedures and the practical realities of working around active equipment. Coastal humidity in Durban or Gqeberha can also affect condition reporting, so we look for people who notice the small things and record them properly.

A Practical Team Environment
Machine Africa is led from Kempton Park by Siyabonga Mthembu, with a team that includes Naledi Khumalo, Pieter van der Merwe, Ayesha Ismail, Thabo Molefe, Johan Botha and Lerato Nkosi. Everyone has a clear role, and we expect the same from anyone who joins us. The work is direct, practical and based on clear responsibility.
If you enjoy organised work, industrial sites and a role where no two days are the same, you may fit in well. We prefer people who are ready to learn, communicate properly and keep standards steady from first inspection to final closure.
